ABSTRACT

Recent seismic design codes prescribe that beam column connections must be such that they can achieve a cyclic plastic rotation capacity of a given value, typically between 25 and 40 mrad depending on the intended ductility class of the structure. The performance of beam-column connections is affected by many factors such as dimensions of beam, column and joint, connection design, fabrication quality and the mechanical properties of the different regions of the joint. Documentation for frames made of heavy sections is limited.
