ABSTRACT

However, more rigorous application of the equal displacement hypothesis may result in higher Δi and inelastic rotation estimates. In NBCC, the total aniticipated storey drifts are assumed equal to RoRdΔe. The system overstrength factor Ro for EBFs is obtained from Ro = RsizeRφRyieldRsh, where Rsize accounts for the difference between actual member sizes vs required member size (= 1.05), Rφ reflects the difference between nominal and factored member resistances (= 1.10), Ryield is the ratio between expected and nominal steel yield strength (= 1.10),

1 INTRODUCTION

The eccentrically braced frame (EBF) is an efficient traditional steel framing system used to resist seismic loads. The energy dissipation is achieved through inelastic deformations of beam segments called links. Links act as ductile fuses and limit the forces transmitted to the other frame members which are designed to exhibit elastic and stable behavior.
