ABSTRACT

The self-centering behavior in self-centering momentresisting frames (SC-MRFs) is achieved through the connections by post-tensioning (PT) the beams with either high strength strands or bars (Ricles et al. 2001, Garlock et al. 2005). The behavior of a SC-MRF is characterized by a gap opening and closing at the interface of the beam tension flange and column flange under earthquake loading. The gap opening is quantified by the relative rotation between beam and column, θr, as shown in (Figure 1).
