ABSTRACT

In the last years, it is common to perform pre-seismic assessments to buildings of national interest and importance, in order to examine if they possess sufficient resistance to withstand earthquakes that are expected to occur in the future. Such assessment is especially necessary for the buildings of the national telecommunications network, as they have to be fully operational after a strong seismic event. The Hellenic Telecommunications Organization, called as OTE, operates approximately 2500 buildings, which have been mostly designed according to older seismic regulations. In addition, some buildings carry on their top towers and masts for telecommunication purposes, regarding them, in most cases, only as additional weight.
