ABSTRACT

Due to their favourable features, such as ease and speed of application and good mechanical properties the Fibre Reinforced Polymers (FRP) system is widely used for strengthening of reinforced concrete beams. Generally, FRPs, in the form of sheets of unidirectional fibres, are bonded to concrete surfaces by organic resins (epoxy resin). The use of organic resins entails some disadvantages such as the lack of fire resistance, the degradation under UV light and the low compatibility with the substrate material.
