ABSTRACT

The main objective of this research is to investigate the suitability of locally available welded wire mesh (WWM) for increasing the load carrying capacity of plain concrete specimens. This objective can be accomplished through testing plain concrete cylinders of 150 × 300 mm under axial loading after wrapping them with thin ferrocement jackets containing 2 or 4 layers of medium spacing welded wire mesh (WWM) and a high strength cementitious matrix. It is expected that the results of this research should provide an efficient, low cost repair technique for preserving and renewing aging or damaged concrete structures and encourage the construction industry to discover the potential applications of ferrocement in numerous structures.
