ABSTRACT
This study deals with the second tolerable displacement. It is worth noting that the first tolerable displacement is not critical in design except for the lateral movement of abutment foundations on soft ground, and preventive measures are usually applied in such cases. In addition, due to their long length, highway bridge superstructures are not sensitive to the unequal vertical displacement of neighboring substructures.
