ABSTRACT

A need exists for analysis methods capable of predicting the motions and structural loads on a damaged ship. Where the damaged ship experiences flooding, the intact ship methods used to assess the structural loads on a damaged ship will not be able to account for floodwater behaviour and could provide misleading quantifications on structural integrity for the applications:

– decision support, guidance on the structural integrity of a damaged ship;

– analysis of the damage tolerance of new designs, for example with reference to the ALS (Accident Limit State).
