ABSTRACT

SUMMARY: This chapter discusses the rising movement of corporate responsibility reporting in the business environment due to the demand for sustainable management. It advocates the importance of building a sustainable mindset through considering how to develop people and organisations so that sustainability thinking and behaviour is a natural and ongoing part of the organisation’s life. The chapter starts by explaining the evolving concept of the environment where organisations work. This sets the scene for the shift in ideology from traditional business strategies to contemporary strategies and its impact on business ethics, its economic and social role and how it could be used as a sustainability tool. Furthermore the research reports on techniques available for business to assist them in enhancing their honesty and integrity in their dealings. Finally the chapter provides suggestions for organisations to develop ethics at work as a means of building a sustainable business environment.
