ABSTRACT

SUMMARY: Maximizing the world’s energy and agricultural capacities in the face of growing human population is the most critical task facing mankind and the environment. The aim of this chapter is to present information on how exponential growth impact global ecosystems and how human activities increase the presence of harmful pests and pathogens, magnify the effect of toxic chemicals, change the biotic and abiotic components of ecosystem cycling as well as change the worldwide climate. Although green solutions are available for a deteriorated environment, an overall healthy and sustainable solution is difficult to achieve.
