ABSTRACT
The principal uses of water are human consumption, transport, electrical energy generation, recreation, irrigation (agricultural purpose) and in several industrial applications. The biggest Brazilian mining company, Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD), uses water in all of its operations. The main water consumption is in the mineral processing plant which reaches 137 million m3/annum.
