ABSTRACT
The rapid growth in urban development has resulted in an increased demand for the construction of tunnels for public transportation system. Because of space limitation, the metro tunnels are constructed beneath the buildings and/or infrastructures. From both safety and practice point of view, the soil pressure, the thrust pressure of shield machine, the stability of the tunnel should be guaranteed. The accuracy of numerical analyses varies considerably. This paper presents the FLAC3D analysis on the safety for tall buildings and the completed left tunnel during the excavation of the right tunnel (Figure 1).
