ABSTRACT
Urban water management poses one of the greatest development challenges of the 21st century. Specific issues are very different in tropical humid low-laying urban areas than in desert cities. Whereas the first condition is confronted with an abundance of water, desert territories have to cope with severe shortages of water. In both contexts, the lack of safe drinking water, access to sanitation and the increased frequency of flooding/drought demands innovative thinking and partnerships.
