ABSTRACT

Groundwater represents an important component of the water supply of the city of Morelia. Almost 40% of the roughly 100 million of cubic meters of water supplied every year come from groundwater sources. A survey of measured flows carried out from December 2002 to January 2003 revealed that about 1080 l/s were supplied by the 89 wells in service. However, due to steady population growth, this amount has been continuously increasing, resulting in a significant groundwater levels decline and consequently, in land subsidence problems in many parts of the city.
