ABSTRACT

The most prominent sensor in close range photogrammetry is obviously an area sensor. While the transition from analogue to digital has taken place in aerial photogrammetry during the past few years, film was replaced by solid state sensors in close range photogrammetry much earlier. Area sensor cameras can be divided into several categories: stand-alone cameras versus machine vision type cameras requiring permanent computer connection, high resolution cameras versus high speed cameras or 2-D cameras versus 3-D imaging systems. In the following, the most important types of camera will be presented and discussed.
