Dendrimer chemistry is a burgeoning field of macromolecular science that evolved over the last decade from the status of ‘‘aesthetically appealing molecules’’ to mainstream interdisciplinary research. The results of a key word search on the term ‘‘dendrimer*’’ carried out in scientific and technical databases serve to illustrate the exponential surge of publications and patents over the last couple of years (Fig. 1).
