ABSTRACT
Drug therapy in general has improved greatly during the last century. However, although it is successful in many cases, drug treatment is often hampered by serious side effects. This can be explained in that many drugs do not exert their action at the desired site of action exclusively, but either can perturb physiological processes in other tissues/organs or can produce severe toxicity as well. The occurrence of drug adverse effects can greatly affect the patient’s therapeutic compliance.
