ABSTRACT
The prevention of waste and pollution requires an understanding of numerous technical disciplines, including thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and chemical kinetics. This chapter summarizes the basic equations and concepts underlying these seemingly disparate fields.
