ABSTRACT

The advantages of the ‘‘reverse’’ blot (genosensors, type II array format) over the conventional dot blot (Southern blot, type I format) or other competing technologies such as the polymerase chain reaction can be argued. However, the most fundamentally distinct advantage has been that of platform minaturization which in turn has led to a reduced sample size as well as the ability to perform higher throughput analysis using automation tools. It has also been the advances in solidphase substrate chemistries that have led to the successful implementation of array-based technologies.
