ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to review the role of nutraceuticals in oxidative stress and healthy aging. The first part is an introduction to life span, oxidative stress, antioxidants, and the concept of nutraceuticals. In the second part, the results of large-scale epidemiological studies on health risks and antioxidants are discussed, showing beneficial effects of the main lipophilic antioxidant vitamin E. Vitamin E, its isoforms, and their potential as nutraceuticals are the focus of the remainder of the chapter.
