ABSTRACT

Progress in preparing and characterizing electrode-supported bilayers containing cytochrome c oxidase has been slow over the past ten years. Now the potential for extending this structure to other membrane integral enzymes that exhibit direct electron transfer at electrodes holds promise in several areas of interest to our research group. Although it is premature to speculate at this point, this may prove to be a general procedure for constructing this architecture as other oxidases and other membrane enzymes are studied.
