ABSTRACT

Figure 7.1 Surface representation of HRP colored by calculated ET rates (blue<10-10 s−1, red>1010 s−1). The semitransparent molecular surface (GRASP, [Ref. 15]) covers a ribbon representation of HRP (Molscript, [Ref. 96]), colored accordingly, with the heme group and the carbohydrates shown as balls and sticks. The nonglycosylated recombinant enzyme is shown in A and models of the glycosylated enzyme in B (extended carbohydrate, solution conditions) and C (folded-back carbohydrate, dry conditions). The viewpoint is identical in all three models directly into the active site, which is approximately in the middle of the molecule. The carboxy-terminus is to the left of the molecule. High calculated ET rates are located on the reddish belt in the middle of the molecule. The carbohydrate molecules show low calculated ET rates in both models.
