ABSTRACT
There are many reasons for using an ultrashort pulse laser microscope, but they are all associated with the specific properties of ultrashort pulse laser systems: high peak power, short pulse duration and large spectral bandwidth. Nonlinear optics thrives on power. Ultrashort pulse lasers have the unique ability to provide high peak power at moderate average power, avoiding sample damage and permitting the implementation of nonlinear optical techniques in microscopy.
