ABSTRACT

Only a few years after the development of the first lasers, ophthalmic surgical procedures were already being performed with these devices. Since then, the ability to transmit light energy to almost any ocular structure, in addition to the functional importance of vision, have continued to make the eye a favored target organ for laser surgery. Ophthalmic surgeons make use of three classes of laser-tissue interaction: photocoagulation, photoablation, and photodisruption.
