Throughout this paper, X denotes a continuum (nondegenerate, compact, connected, metric space), 2X is the hyperspace of all nonempty closed subsets of X with the Hausdorff metric Hd ([IN], p. 11) and C(X) = {K 6 2* : K is connected}; Fn(X) - {K e 2X : K has at most n points}, n = 1,2,...; Fn(X] is called the nth symmetric product o f X .
