ABSTRACT

When present in emulsions or foams, small solid particles can drastically influence the stability of the thin liquid films present and hence the stability of the whole system. Liquid droplets present in foams can have a similar effect [1-13]. For this to happen, the particles or droplets must be able to enter the surfaces of the films [14]. It is well known that once located within a liquid surface, a solid particle, for example, is usually strongly attached [15-17]. Thus, small particles are in some respects akin to surfactant and other surface-active molecules.
