ABSTRACT

I. OVERVIEW OF THE MARKET The demand for proteomics data comes on the heels of the success of genomics. The completion of the human genome has transformed gene finding from a laborious protocol performed at the bench top into a rapid query performed on the computer. In addition, the emergence of DNA chip technology has transformed the study of gene expression from focused studies of a small numbers of genes to systemwide examinations of thousands of genes. Genomics, however, only describes a small part of the function of the cell. A detailed understanding of cellular pathways requires knowledge of the corresponding proteins.
