ABSTRACT

Downstream processing constitutes a significant part of a protein production process, usually involving several steps and a major share of the total processing cost. In view of this, monitoring of downstream processing becomes an important consideration so as to ensure that the purification sequence is performed optimally (Kenney and Chase 1987). Following are some of the important reasons for monitoring downstream processing of proteins:

● It gives a very good documentation on the processing conditions. This is especially important in the pharmaceutical industry.
