Respiratory Virus Infections in Adults and the Elderly

Despite advances in control of most infectious diseases in the developed world, acute respiratory infections (ARIs), largely caused by viruses with both RNA and DNA genomes, inflict considerable morbidity and mortality among patients with underlying medical conditions and particularly those of advancing years. Acute respiratory viral infections also have an enormous public health and socioeconomic impact on healthy working adults.
