ABSTRACT

I. BACKGROUND Clonorchis sinensis was first recovered from a Chinese man by McConnell during an autopsy (1). It was named as Distoma sinense by Cobbold in 1875, changed to Opisthorchis sinensis by Blanchard in 1895, and finally to Clonorchis sinensis by Looss in 1907. Its common name is the "Chinese liver fluke," and it belongs to the family Opisthorchidae, which is a trematode family that, like Dicrocoeliidae and Fasciolidae, infects human biliary trees (2).
