ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the phase behavior of gemini (dimeric) surfactants. Phase behavior is extremely important when it comes to properties and uses of surfactant-based formulations. All manufacturers of personal care products, home care products, paints, and coatings are interested in the phase behavior of the surfactant. It is important for handling the final product itself as well as for the eventual processing in which the surfactant is going to be involved. The information content in a phase diagram of a surfactant is closely related to the expected behavior of a formulation in its various conditions of application.
