ABSTRACT
The Belgian company Nutra-Chocolate recently announced plans to commercialize a phytosterol-containing chocolate product. According to the company’s website, the phytosterols will be in the microcrystalline form (76). Interestingly, the clinical study describing the cholesterol lowering of phytosterol-enriched (with Forbes Medi-Tech’s Reducol phytosterols) chocolates was reported at almost the same time, and most of the clinical studies were conducted in a neighboring Benelux country, the Netherlands (97).
