ABSTRACT

The distribution of products and quotients of continuous random variables are very important and occur in many situations. For example, the sampling distribution of a statistic may be the product or the quotient of two random variables. However, many of these distributions do not have a closed form or have forms which are computationally difficult to compute, including most stable densities and many other distribution functions. Hence, the main goal of this article is to approximate infinite scale mixtures by finite mixtures.
