ABSTRACT

This article summarizes the major ideas and results of [6]. Real-life dynamical systems are typically described with equations which

have small parameters. As these parameters vary, they can cause radical changes in the qualitative structure of solutions. Although invisible on a usual time scale, in many cases these changes may become dramatically visible on a larger time scale. The deterministic result which resolves this type of difficulty is known as the averaging principle. Stochastic averaging can be loosely described as a theory which helps to handle the same type of difficulty in a non-deterministic setting.
