ABSTRACT

Malformations of the gastrointestinal tract and abdominal wall are infrequent. Their global incidence is estimated to be below 3–6 cases in every 1000 newborns, although it is probably higher, since many of them are part of very severe polymalformative syndromes, with a high incidence of intrauterine death even in the early stages of pregnancy. Some 10% of cases of polyhidramnios are associated with upper digestive atresia, and another 10% with lower digestive atresia. 1 , 2
