ABSTRACT
An estimated 60% of pregnancy loss occurs during the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Between 15% and 20% of all clinically recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage. The first visible structures in pregnancy are extraembryonic structures. In order to predict the outcome of pregnancy, we need to fully appreciate the development and pathologic conditions of early extraembryonic structures.
