ABSTRACT
A number of surveys for freshwater bryozoans exist, most of them having been conducted in temperate regions (Wood 2002). For Europe, 18 species of bryozoans have been recorded, 12 of them in the Middle European region (Kafka 1887, Pateff 1924, Borg 1941, Lacourt 1949a, b, Hoc 1959, Wiebach 1960, Viganò 1965, Pécst & Erdelics 1970, Wiebach & d’Hondt 1978, Mundy 1980, Protasov et al. 1983, Geimer & Massard 1986, Massard & Geimer 1996, d’Hondt & Condé 1996 and Smyth 1994).
