ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The NEWOG project’s main research goal was to develop new concepts capable of combining two factors – property redundancy in and the demand for alternative forms of inner city living. Numerous new ways of rebuilding late 19th and early 20th century town housing were developed based on an analysis of certain selected cases. Priority was given to reducing the number of flats, the integration of sought after, individual living concepts and an investigation of criteria for sustainability. Building work was to be concentrated and concepts applicable elsewhere. Initial variations were valued. Types of building work were compiled in a catalogue, with a detailed description and cost analysis.
