ABSTRACT

The photochemical rearrangement of b,g-unsaturated carbonyl compounds involving 1,2-acyl migration coupled with cyclization leading to the formation of three membered rings is termed oxa-di-p-methane (ODPM) rearrangement. The photochemical oxa-di-p-methane rearrangement is analogous to the di-p-methane rearrangement (see the previous chapter). The first example of an ODPM rearrangement was reported [1] in 1966 for the b,g-unsaturated ketone A and it was largely unnoticed (Sch. 1).
