ABSTRACT

many is organizations struggle to control the skyrocketing costs associated with desktop assets. Companies that have traditionally relied on large, distributed systems as the backbone of their information systems are increasingly dependent on desktop systems. Although the use of desktop computers has grown dramatically, only recently have PCs and LANs been entrusted with mission-critical tasks. This new dependence on PCs has created certain problems resulting from the fact that PCs and LANs do not have the centralized support infrastructure that data centers had.
