ABSTRACT

In E-commerce, even a few seconds of Web site downtime can result in thousands of potential customers lost forever, and a significant drop in expected revenue. After spending time and money deploying their information technology (IT) infrastructures, E-businesses often think they have invested in uptime for their Web sites. But all they have really bought is the hardware and software to power their sites. What is missing is often the expertise and manpower to manage these infrastructures to ensure that all components perform reliably.
