ABSTRACT

The marginal vein is a truncular venous malformation. For proper management of the marginal vein, the assessment of the deep venous system is one of the critical initial steps. There are two anatomical scenarios being distinguished: the marginal vein with normal or hypoplastic deep vein system, and the marginal vein with an absent deep venous system. For a clear distinction, we call this latter form not a marginal vein, but an embryonic vein. This makes it clear that there is a completely different anatomy and hemodynamics, and consequently, the therapeutic procedures must also be different.
