ABSTRACT

In contrast to the CLOVES (congenital, lipomatous, overgrowth, vascular malformations, epidermal nevi, and spinal/skeletal anomalies and/or scoliosis) or Proteus syndrome, the soft tissue hypertrophy and osteo-hypertrophy are a secondary condition as the complication of pathological vascularization in Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome. An early laser treatment of the capillary malformation can prevent this hyperplasia. Furthermore, the reduction of hyperperfusion reduces vein overload and lessens hemodynamic burdening to the marginal vein. Hence, an “early” occlusion of the transmuscular arteriovenous fistulas by laser reduces vein overload. But if the marginal vein is dilated and there is loss of function, intraluminal laser therapy is an alternative option to other techniques.
