ABSTRACT

The “Tale of a Smart City” centers around an autonomous transportation system and the commerce and smart city management that develop around it. This chapter deals with a Privacy Playbook to assist in the exposure and mitigation of privacy concerns at the product planning and architecture level. With the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT)-powered smart city, video and audio surveillance units will be everywhere, providing the volumes of images and audio needed to derive convincing deep-fakes. In the case of privacy, information is power, and it is becoming all too easy to convert discombobulated pieces of data into valuable information that can be misused by special interest groups, governments, and for-profit titans. Protecting privacy and user choice will go a long way to minimizing such ethical dilemmas in the first place. The privacy playbook, in the inset, is a guide that can be used to expose privacy issues during the planning and architecture phases of the product life cycle.
