ABSTRACT

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary area that handles complex and enormous quantities of data. Deep Learning (DL) has been widely used in bioinformatics to derive relationships among the features in a medical data set. Deep Learning has become disruptive learning and exhibited great success in bioinformatics. Deep Learning is used in bioinformatics areas such as biomedical imaging and signal processing, Omics. A number of reviews have been published on Deep Learning in bioinformatics; however, most reviews have not covered new and potential applications in bioinformatics. This chapter provides an exoteric review on the introduction to Deep Learning and discusses various Deep Learning applications in bioinformatics. Various Deep Learning models that are widely used in bioinformatics were discussed. Further challenges in adopting Deep Learning in bioinformatics are also explored.
