ABSTRACT

Paediatric patients with serious infections are a challenge to the clinicians treating them. The pharmacokinetics and disposition of antibacterials are influenced by the changes taking place in the course of normal growth and development [1,2]. Clinicians may also face failures secondary to bacterial resistance [3,4]. New solutions are required to successfully treat patients with high risk infections, including the development of new antibiotics [5]. In this review, we summarise information for the most commonly used antibacterials in paediatric patients [6].
