ABSTRACT

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder, which makes the airways sensitive to stimuli such as allergens, tobacco smoke, cold air or exercise. When exposed to these stimuli, the airways become swollen, constricted and filled with mucus. The resulting airflow limitation is reversible, either spontaneously, or with treatment. Asthmatic children suffer from recurrent episodes of wheezing, difficulty of breathing and/or (nocturnal) cough.
