ABSTRACT

DA was a distinguished physicist. This simple phrase said, and having in mind that all notions and characteristics devalue over time, some points need to be immediately clarified. As the Charter of the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation (formerly, of the USSR) specifies: scientists who 'have enriched science with distinguished scientific achievements' (Clause 10), are eligible for the title of the Academy's Corresponding Member. Academicians (the Full Members of the Academy), however, are supposed to have enriched science with 'achievements of paramount scientific significance'. So, by calling DA a distinguished physicist, we only say that he was deservedly elected a Corresponding Member in 1987. The fact, however, is that DA was a prominent scientist on an international scale of values, the author of some excellent studies, and one of the highest-ranking theoretical physicists in the USSR and Russia. It is not worth ranging and ranking, though. Turning to the substance of the matter, the material of the future collection demonstrates quite clearly both the rich content and high level of DA's work. I shall here mention only three of those research areas in which DA worked-and these are the ones to which he most significantly contributed.
