ABSTRACT

Traditional neuropsychological assessment is predicated on the fact that it is done one-on-one between the patient and neuropsychologist/psychometrist. CogSport is a web-based computerized program specifically designed to assess cognitive changes associated with sports-related concussions. The injury of a number of high profile professional athletes whom have suffered concussions has heightened awareness among both health care professionals and the public alike and has made it one of the most important clinical issues in sports medicine. The literature indicates that the reaction time’s in patients with mild traumatic brain injury were slower, less accurate, less efficient, and more variable over time than for control subjects. Post-injury concussion performance has been measured in over 500 high school and college athletes and has demonstrated the ability to separate injured from 50 age-matched control subjects who suffer from grade 1 concussions. Assessment of sports-related concussion is critical in the medical management and good health of athletes.
