ABSTRACT

Many chronic pain sufferers consult a chiropractor as a last hope or a last resort after having tried numerous medical and/or surgical approaches without significant help. In some cases, the patient is relieved of long-standing pain after just a few adjustments. Chiropractic was founded by D. D. Palmer in 1895. Palmer was known as a magnetic healer and used nonmedical, nonsurgical means to restore health to sick individuals. Doctor must learn to recognize when a patient has a chronic pain syndrome. Depending on the severity of the problem, the patient may present with a variety of physical and mental symptoms. Some people suffer mild to moderate chronic pain and use it to retreat from life. Others suffer moderate to severe pain and lead an almost normal life. Many chronic pain patients state that their problem began after one or more accidents.
